Formerly
called the ' Philosophical discussion group ', we are
using the Yoga Sutra
as a starting point for our meetings this fall.
Since the discussion group began, it has evolved into
an inner exploration of present awareness in relationships,
experiences, actions and wisdom rather than a discussion
on philosophical ideas. So, we have changed the name
to 'Awareness
Training' to more accurately represent the group.
We will be using Chip Hartranft's publication and translation
of the Yoga Sutra, which will be read at each meeting
or you can purchase the book yourself:

In
the search for a deeper understanding of ones own nature
we would like to invite individuals to participate in
a study of the Yoga Sutra.
This group will not be about acquiring and accumulating more knowledge in belief
systems or techniques. Our intent is to create an active inquiry into the nature
of the mind and the essence of our human condition.
Each meeting will begin with a 5 minute quiet sitting meditation.
There is no teacher or authority, but we will support each participant through self inquiry. To enhance self discovery experientially and in order to gain a deeper understanding of ones own nature, the group will share each others insights and first hand experiences.
All experiences and views will be welcomed with respect.
Sometimes authors and recommended reading will be suggested in order to begin
the discussion from a common focal point. Each person is encouraged to enhance
their self inquiry through the teachings of each book or author prior to discussions.
